Consultation pharmaceutical needs assessment Croydon 2018

Why are we doing this?

Croydon Health and Wellbeing Board is hosted by the London Borough of Croydon. The government requires all Health and Wellbeing Boards to produce an assessment of pharmaceutical services in its area at least every three years. The next assessment for Croydon is due by the end of March 2018. This document is called the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. We are consulting on this document and would like to hear your views on pharmaceutical services in Croydon.

What do we want to know?

We are seeking the public’s views on the draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. The consultation runs between 20 November 2017 until 21 January 2018. Your comments will inform the final Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment which will be produced by 1 April 2018.

What we found out

As required by the Pharmaceutical Regulations 2013, a 60-day consultation on the draft PNA was conducted from 20 November 2017 to 21 January 2018.

The draft PNA was hosted on the Croydon Council website and invitations to review the assessment and comment were sent to a wide range of stakeholders including all community pharmacies in Croydon. A number of members of the public had expressed an interest in the PNA and were invited to participate in the consultation as well as a range of public engagement groups in Croydon as identified by Croydon Council and Croydon Healthwatch. Responses to the consultation were possible via an online survey, paper or email.

There were in total 139 responses to the internet survey, and no paper surveys or email comments. There were 40 responses (29%) received from the public, one (1%) from community pharmacies, five (4%) from carers, two (2%) from GP and healthcare providers, and six (5%) from ‘other’. The remaining 85 responses (61%) were from unidentified sources.

The following were the main themes, and the PNA Steering Group’s response, to feedback received during the consultation on the draft PNA:

- Information provided in the PNA

- Consideration which services are ‘necessary’ and ‘relevant’

- Issues over access to services

- Availability of services currently, and not currently, provided by pharmacies

- Correction of data in the PNA

What difference has it made?

All responses were considered by the PNA Steering Group at its meeting on 8 February 2018 for the final report. A number of additional comments were received that were considered by the Steering Group in the production of the final PNA.
