Croydon Council is proposing to introduce a 7.5 tonne weight restriction in the Plough Lane, Highfield Road, and Russell Hill area. The aim of the scheme is to discourage heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) through traffic and improve the local environment and road safety in the area.

Why are we doing this?

Around 4,000 HGVs travel on Plough Lane every week, mostly as a cut through between South Beddington and Purley. The HGVs cause affect the environment for local residents and some HGVs even mount the pavement creating a hazard for pedestrians.

The proposed weight restriction will operate 24 hours a day, throughout the year, and will prevent heavy commercial vehicles over 7.5 tonnes from using the above roads as a through route, improving road safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

How do I get involved?

Before making a decision on the future of this scheme, we want to hear from local residents and drivers who use these roads.

You can submit your responses to the proposed weight restriction scheme by following the link to the response form at the bottom of this page.

For any scheme specific enquiries or if you require the consultation information in a different format, contact us on 020 8726 6000, 9am – 4pm, Monday to Friday, or email: highwayimprovements@croydon.gov.uk
