Welcome to the first audit survey specifically focusing on violence against women and girls (VAWG) within education . MOPAC are funding work within education to tackle VAWG within schools, heavily focusing on preventative work.

FJS and the VAWG education officer are committed to working closely with schools and require a baseline of where schools are at in terms of VAWG work as well as VAWG specific incidents.

The purpose of the survey is not to be judgmental about individual schools, more so to identify areas of development to target support and resources appropriately. With this in mind, please be open and honest about your school/college’s current picture. This will also allow us to measure impact of any intervention.

Deadline for completion is Friday 1.11.24, 5pm

Welcome to the first audit survey specifically focusing on violence against women and girls within education (VAWG). MOPAC are funding work within education to tackle VAWG within schools, heavily focusing on preventative work.

    What is VAWG?

Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is an umbrella term that encompasses various forms of violence and abusive behaviours predominantly directed at women and girls, although individuals of all genders can be affected. This includes physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse, often rooted in gender inequality and the misuse of power and control. The United Nations defines VAWG as 'any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty'. Common manifestations of VAWG include domestic abuse, stalking, sexual harassment, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and so-called 'honour-based' violence.

The government statutory definition of domestic abuse can be found here.

Please answer the questions honestly, evidencing where the school currently is in understanding and tackling violence against women and girls. If you have any queries, please reach out to catherine.bennett@croydon.gov.uk
